Here we will walk you through yacht charter costs by vessel size, type and season. Our data is based on an analysis of over 2,500 real yachts you can charter today.

Up first is a detailed table breaking down everything we’ll cover in this guide. Use this as a quick reference for the average yacht rental prices you can expect to find for each type of vessel. The sections after the table offer a more detailed breakdown of the cost to rent a yacht for each of these categories.

Just a few last things to note: This guide often refers to both sailing and motor yachts. For readers who may not be familiar with the distinction: sailing yachts rely on wind power, using sails to move across the water. They tend to be slower and quieter, and they use far less fuel. Motor yachts, by contrast, are driven by strong engines and travel without the use of sails.

You may be wondering if chartering is the same as renting. Fundamentally, these are the same thing. Technically, renting implies a shorter term, smaller boats, and uncrewed, while chartering implies a longer term, larger boats, and a fully crewed, tailored experience. This fully crewed type of charter is often called a skippered yacht.

Many people ask how much it is to rent a yacht for a day or what a 3-day yacht charter costs. These are somewhat nuanced questions. Yacht charters are typically for a week due to the fully crewed nature of the experience. It is absolutely possible to find single- and 3-day charters, but they are typically available only in the most popular boating destinations, such as Miami, the Mediterranean and the Caribbean.

We only operate weekly charters at Yacht.com, so all of our charter yacht cost figures in this guide are quoted in weekly rates. We also provide how much it costs to rent a yacht per day, but these figures reflect the daily cost of a weeklong charter. True single-day charter costs may vary.

How Much Does it Cost to Rent a Mini Yacht Boat?

Mini, or pocket, yachts are smaller than vessels considered “small” yachts. Although definitions can differ, we use the term to describe luxury recreational boats designed with comfort and premium features in mind. They are generally the most affordable yachts available, usually measuring between 20 and 30 feet, though some classifications extend up to 40 feet.

Yacht SizeTypeAverage Weekly PriceCost Per DaySummer WeeklyWinter Weekly
MiniMotor$ 22,889$ 3,270$ 21,970$ 22,044
MiniSail

Based on our data, yacht charter prices for mini yachts average around $23,000 per week or roughly $3,000 per day for a motor yacht. Interestingly, we found that the weekly rates for mini motor yachts in summer and winter are both around $22,000, though summer rates are typically more expensive. However, in our research, we did not find any mini sail yachts currently available for charter to quote a price for you. You can expect them to typically cost less than motor yachts.

How Much is it to Rent a Small Yacht Boat?

Small yachts range in size from 30 to 60 feet and only cost slightly more to charter than their mini siblings. The yacht rental cost for these vessels averages around $29,000 to $35,000 per week. Small yachts are also the most common type of daily charters that exist. How much it costs to rent one of these boats for a day should average around $4,000 to $5,000.

Yacht SizeTypeAverage Weekly PriceCost Per DaySummer WeeklyWinter Weekly
SmallMotor$ 29,422$ 4,203$ 31,833$ 29,494
SmallSail$ 33,090$ 4,727$ 35,410$ 34,344

Small motor yachts will run you an average of $29,000 per week, with a slightly higher cost of $32,000 in the summer months. While the yacht rental price of sail yachts is typically less than that of motor yachts, our research found that small sail yachts can actually cost a bit more, averaging $33,000 per week and around $35,000 in the winter months.

How Much Does it Cost to Rent a Mid-size Yacht?

Mid-size yachts range in length from 60 to 80 feet, and charter yacht costs rise proportionally. How much it is to rent one of these yachts for a week averages between $39,000 and $48,000, depending on type and season. Mid-size yachts are also the most common daily or 3-day charters you’ll find, and how much it is to rent these boats for a day averages around $6,000.

Yacht SizeTypeAverage Weekly PriceCost Per DaySummer WeeklyWinter Weekly
MidMotor$ 39,365$ 5,624$ 44,701$ 39,915
MidSail$ 45,184$ 6,455$ 48,220$ 44,816

Mid-size motor yachts cost an average of $39,000 per week, rising to $45,000 in the summer months. That breaks down to an average daily cost of about $6,000. Here again, we found that mid-size sailing yachts are a bit more, costing around $45,000 per week to charter, with a higher average around $48,000 in the summer months.

How Much to Rent a Large Yacht?

Moving up the list, we have large yachts, which typically range from 80 to 120 feet in length. How much a yacht charter costs in this category ranges from $45,000 to $80,000 per week, which is certainly a larger range than mid-size, small and mini yachts.

Yacht SizeTypeAverage Weekly PriceCost Per DaySummer WeeklyWinter Weekly
LargeMotor$ 81,903$ 11,700$ 80,149$ 77,600
LargeSail$ 45,410$ 6,487$ 49,201$ 46,827

Here, our research found that the yacht type and its corresponding costs are more in line with expectations. Large motor yachts average $82,000 per week, costing $78,000 on average in the winter months. On average, that comes out to $12,000 per day. On the other hand, large sailing yachts are much cheaper at around $6,000 per day or $45,000 per week. In the summer, that rises to $49,000.

A motor superyacht charter will cost an average weekly rate of $188,000 or $27,000 per day. That drops to an average of $186,000 in the winter. Sailing superyachts are far cheaper and nearly half the price of their motor counterparts. How much it is to charter a sailing superyacht comes in at $94,000 on average. How Much to Charter a Mega Yacht

Chartering mega yachts, like the one pictured above, comes with an exponentially higher price tag than even just a superyacht. We define mega yachts as between 200 and 350 feet, though some do define anything over 200 feet as a mega yacht. With enough yachts now over 350 feet in length, we call any over 350 feet a gigayacht.

Yacht SizeTypeAverage Weekly PriceCost Per DaySummer WeeklyWinter Weekly
MegaMotor$ 678,806$ 96,972$ 683,735$ 673,876
MegaSail$ 330,571$ 47,224$ 332,571$ 328,571

There is a wide price range for megayachts, with the yacht type (sail or motor) being the main driver of the difference. Luxury megayacht charter costs range from $329,000 per week for a sailing megayacht in the winter to $684,000 per week for a motor megayacht in the summer. On average, motor megayachts charter for $679,000 per week or $97,000 per day. Sailing megayachts charter for $331,000 on average, or $47,000 per day.

How Much is it to Rent a Gigayacht?

Finally, on to the largest yachts in existence: The gigayacht. These are vessels with lengths of anything over 350 feet, by our definition. Here again, the cost exponentially rises compared to even just mega yachts. Private yacht charter costs in this category average nearly $3 million per week, or $419,000 per day. In our research, we did not find that yacht charter costs in this category varied with the season. Additionally, these prices are for motor yachts, as we could not find a sailing gigayacht for charter in this category to quote.
