So, you want to know how much a yacht is? Well, you’ve come to the right place. How much a yacht costs can vary widely depending on size, type, condition, and more. At the small end, a mini or pocket yacht with lengths up to 30 feet will cost an average of $125,000 to $190,000 new. At the largest end, a gigayacht will run you $118 million to $1 billion.
Clearly, with prices ranging this much, there is much to think about. That’s why we at Yacht.com have put together this data-backed resource for you to use as a benchmark while you consider the best options for your budget. One last thing to note is that we reference sail and motor yachts frequently in this resource. Just a quick explainer for those unsure about the difference: a sailing yacht is powered by the wind, using sails to capture the wind power. Sailing yachts are slower, quieter and of course, require much less fuel. Motor yachts, on the other hand, use a powerful motor engine to propel the vessel through the water and do not have sails.
How Much is a Mini Yacht Boat?

Mini or pocket yachts are smaller than what’s classified as a small yacht. While definitions of mini yachts vary, we define them as luxurious recreational boats that emphasise comfort and high-end amenities. These are by far the cheapest yachts on the market. They typically range from 20 to 30 feet in length, though some define them as up to 40 feet.
| Yacht Size | Type | Condition | Average Price | Max Price |
| Mini | Motor | New | $ 190,022 | $ 985,000 |
| Mini | Motor | Used | $ 120,101 | $ 757,360 |
| Mini | Sail | New | $ 124,613 | $ 279,641 |
| Mini | Sail | Used | $ 60,779 | $ 565,107 |
According to our research, new mini yachts range in price from $30,000 to $1 million. Mini sailboat yachts cost an average of $125,000, while small motor yachts are priced around $190,000 on average. However, the price of these small yachts can drop considerably when considering used options.
Our research found the average price of a used mini motor yacht is $120,000, while a used sailboat yacht is around $60,000. Keep in mind that used yachts can be more than 50 years old, and while their prices may seem attractive, they often require extensive care, including frequent repairs and maintenance, which can drive up the cost.

When we jump from mini to small yachts, the cost rises exponentially. We define small yachts as between 30 and 60 feet in length. Small yacht prices can range from $126,000 to as much as $4,075,000, according to our analysis. We found the average price for a new small motor yacht to be around $1.1 million. A small sailboat yacht can cost as much as $3,050,000 on the high-end, but averages around $680,000.
| Yacht Size | Type | Condition | Average Price | Max Price |
| Small | Sail | New | $ 682,249 | $ 3,043,000 |
| Small | Sail | Used | $ 349,746 | $ 1,500,000 |
| Small | Motor | New | $ 1,105,661 | $ 4,078,094 |
| Small | Motor | Used | $ 669,268 | $ 2,299,999 |
Small used motor yachts cost an average of $670,000, but can often cost much less, depending on the condition you are willing to accept and the additional money and work you’re willing to put in. A small used sailboat yacht can cost as much as $1.5 million, but we found the average to be $350,000.
Mid-size Yacht Prices

Next, we have mid-size yachts. These boats are usually between 60 and 80 feet in length. Prices in this category can range from $1 million to $11 million. New mid-size motor yachts cost an average of $4.5 million, while new mid-size sailboat yachts are a little cheaper at $4.1 million, according to our research.
| Yacht Size | Type | Condition | Average Price | Max Price |
| Mid | Sail | New | $ 4,159,783 | $ 11,207,903 |
| Mid | Sail | Used | $ 1,461,860 | $ 9,204,842 |
| Mid | Motor | New | $ 4,527,904 | $ 10,474,295 |
| Mid | Motor | Used | $ 1,606,440 | $ 7,500,000 |
Used yachts in this category can be as much as $9.2 million, but our research shows they tend to average $1.5 million for either a used sail or motor yacht. We did find some exceptionally cheap used mid-size yachts between $130,000 and $250,000, but you can certainly expect some additional investments needed in this price range. It’s also worth noting that you’ll find more racer and cruiser yachts at the bottom of this price range. While these are still yachts based on definition, though, they might not be exactly what you are picturing when thinking of a mid-size luxury yacht.
The Average Price of Large Yachts

The next rigs we have are large yachts, which range from 80 to 120 feet in length. Here, we get into the typical image of your large luxury yachts. The price for one of these can range from $3.3 million to $29 million. The average price of new large sailing yachts is as much as $13 million, while, interestingly, we found the average cost of a new large motor yacht to be only around $10.8 million.
| Yacht Size | Type | Condition | Average Price | Max Price |
| Large | Sail | New | $ 13,170,643 | $ 18,584,459 |
| Large | Sail | Used | $ 3,304,610 | $ 19,225,302 |
| Large | Motor | New | $ 10,755,376 | $ 28,900,000 |
| Large | Motor | Used | $ 5,325,734 | $ 25,051,151 |
Used large yachts cost as much as $25 million, but average around $3.3 million for a sail yacht and $5.3 million for a motor yacht. Of course, keep in mind that the yachts at the bottom of this price range are often very old, well-used, or racers or cruisers.

Luxury Superyacht Prices

Now onto the superyacht. Superyachts range in length from 120 to 200 feet. These are the vessels that will make you ask, ‘Why are boats so expensive?’ The price of a superyacht (or super yacht) can run you as much as $92 million. However, according to our research, the price of these luxury yachts typically averages $36 million for a new motor yacht and $27 million for a new sail yacht.
| Yacht Size | Type | Condition | Average Price | Max Price |
| Super | Sail | New | $ 36,250,868 | $ 52,432,642 |
| Super | Sail | Used | $ 11,292,847 | $ 60,588,830 |
| Super | Motor | New | $ 27,399,575 | $ 48,937,132 |
| Super | Motor | Used | $ 15,593,992 | $ 92,048,415 |
Used superyacht prices are considerably less, but still on the pricey side. A used sail superyacht averages $11 million, according to our research. A used motor super yacht costs an average of $15.5 million.

Mega Yacht Prices

Mega yachts are defined as between 200 and 350 feet in length. While some define a megayacht (or mega yacht) as anything over 200 feet in length, we categorize anything over 350 feet as a gigayacht (see the next section).
| Yacht Size | Type | Condition | Average Price | Max Price |
| Mega | Sail | New | $ 53,481,294 | $ 53,481,294 |
| Mega | Sail | Used | $ 32,624,755 | $ 50,102,302 |
| Mega | Motor | New | $ 82,843,574 | $ 115,934,396 |
| Mega | Motor | Used | $ 61,901,566 | $ 279,640,755 |
The cost of a mega yacht will give you true sticker shock. The most expensive mega yacht we found in our research is a mega motor yacht priced at $280 million. However, this is far beyond the average. Most new motor mega yachts average $83 million while their sailing counterparts come in around $53.5 million, according to our analysis. The price of a used yacht in this category averages $62 million for a motor yacht and $32.5 million for a sail yacht.

How Much a Gigayacht Costs

Rounding out our yacht taxonomy is the gigayacht. These behemoths are anything over 350 feet in length and are a somewhat recent category, spurred by the ever-increasing lengths of these recreational vessels. While traditionally, any yacht over 200 feet is called a mega yacht, there are enough pushing past 350 feet now that they deserve a category on their own.
| Yacht Size | Type | Condition | Average Price | Max Price |
| Giga | Sail | New | $ 118,000,000 | $ 118,000,000 |
| Giga | Sail | Used | – | – |
| Giga | Motor | New | $ 270,736,368 | $ 314,403,524 |
| Giga | Motor | Used | $ 242,743,711 | $ 314,595,849 |
There aren’t many gigayachts in the world. In fact, our research found no used sailing gigayachts to quote a price for you. You can expect a gigayacht price range from $118 million to $314.5 million, based on our research. However, there were only a handful for sale when we conducted our analysis. It’s absolutely normal to find a gigayacht that costs $1 billion or more.

Lamborghini and Other Specialty Yacht Prices

While yacht length generally determines their size category and pricing, that is not always the case. Certain yachts are designed for more than luxurious recreation. These so-called specialty yachts push the boundaries of what you expect from these vessels, often focusing on extreme speed or ultra-rugged exploration. Others pack extra ultra-luxury amenities into the boat, like helipads, underwater lounges, or are even designed to be totally self-sustaining for doomsday-like scenarios.
Take the Tecnomar Lamborghini 63, for example. Created in partnership between The Italian Sea Group and Automobili Lamborghini, this specimen is a special, limited-edition, lightweight, ultra-fast, luxurious vessel inspired by Lamborghini. This Lamborghini yacht price runs between $4 and $6 million new, which is not bad for a mid-size yacht. However, since only 63 units were made, finding one for sale is a challenge.
So when it comes to specialty yachts, it’s not always about the cost, but rather the exclusivity. As with the Lambo yacht price, it’s not steep, but they are hard to find.
Ownership Isn’t the Only Way to Yacht
Now that you are a better-informed yacht consumer, you know a lot more about what you should pay for the vessel you want. Whether you’re looking to break into the yachting world with a mini yacht or you’re ready to go big with a luxury superyacht, don’t pay more than you should. Use this data to make an informed decision.
However, you don’t need to own a yacht to experience yachting. In fact, why own something you’ll only use a few times a year? Unless you plan on living on your vessel, charting makes far more sense. So even if you’re set on buying a yacht, head on over to Yacht.com to see what’s possible with a charter. The extraordinary can be effortless. Welcome aboard a new era of yachting.
Sources and Methodology
On January 14, 2026, we examined over 2,500 listings on YachtWorld by size (ranging from mini to giga), condition (new or used), and sailing or motor type. We determined the minimum and maximum prices for each category and computed the average cost for each, based on our findings. Only fully ready yachts were considered, with hulls and incomplete builds excluded from our analysis.
