From Bezos to Zuckerberg: The World’s Most Extravagant Celebrity Superyachts

From Bezos to Zuckerberg, these iconic yachts show how the world’s most influential owners are driving the next generation of luxury yachting.

Some of the world’s most recognizable names have put their fortunes into some of the most ambitious superyachts ever built, for privacy, adventure and entertainment on a whole other level. Aside from being bigger and better, celebrity yachts also represent the priorities shaping the yachting industry at the top of the market: personalization, adventure-readiness, and technical innovation, combining the comfort of a private luxury residence with the freedom to reach anywhere in the world.

Here are five of the most impressive celebrity-owned yachts that continue to turn heads, and what they show about where the industry is heading.

Eclipse

The yacht that helped define the mega yacht era

Few yachts have attracted as much attention as Eclipse, the 533’ (162m) yacht built by German shipyard Blohm+Voss. Commissioned by businessman Roman Abramovich, Eclipse became one of the world’s largest private yachts when delivered and showcased the extraordinary scale achievable in modern yacht design.

With multiple decks, two helipads, a German missile defense system, extensive guest accommodation, and a range of custom facilities designed around privacy and comfort, Eclipse remains one of the defining yachts of the modern mega yacht era.

Rising Sun

A yacht built for entertaining

Originally commissioned for Oracle founder Larry Ellison before later becoming associated with entertainment executive David Geffen, Rising Sun remains one of the most recognizable large yachts in the world. Built by Lürssen, the approximately 454’ (138m) yacht was designed with entertaining in mind.

It features a vast interior volume and accommodation suitable for hosting guests on an impressive scale. The ownership history highlights the close relationship among the worlds of technology, entertainment, and superyachts, with many high-profile figures drawn to the privacy and flexibility yacht ownership offers.

Koru

One of the world’s largest sailing yachts

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos entered the superyacht spotlight with Koru, a striking three-masted sailing yacht built by Dutch shipyard Oceanco. Measuring 417’ (127m), Koru is among the largest sailing yachts ever constructed and represents a growing trend among ultra-high-net-worth owners towards yachts designed for extended cruising and global exploration.

The yacht features expansive outdoor living areas, luxurious guest spaces, and a dedicated support vessel, the 246’ (75m) Abeona. Rather than simply creating a luxury retreat, Koru demonstrates how today’s largest sailing yachts are becoming sophisticated platforms for adventure and long-range travel.

Launchpad

A yacht that brings technology wealth into focus

The launch of Launchpad highlighted the increasing presence of technology entrepreneurs within the superyacht sector. Built by renowned Dutch yacht builder Feadship, the 389’ (118m) yacht owned by Mark Zuckerberg showcases the craftsmanship and engineering of one of the world’s leading custom yacht brands.

With multiple decks and a highly personalized interior, Launchpad reflects the broader trend among modern owners, commissioning yachts tailored to individual lifestyles rather than following traditional luxury conventions.

Octopus

A landmark explorer yacht

The late Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen’s Octopus is widely regarded as one of the most capable private yachts ever built. Constructed by Lürssen and penned by Espen Oino, the 414’ (126m) platform was designed for adventure as well as luxury, featuring extensive guest areas, two helipads, a submarine, a swimming pool, a cinema and music studio, and an array of facilities suited to long-range exploration.

In recent years, Octopus has also become known for its involvement in ocean research and conservation projects, demonstrating how large private yachts can serve purposes beyond personal leisure.
