This Iconic BVI Yacht Club Just Reopened After 7 Years — Here’s What Changed
Superyacht-friendly facilities with privacy and exclusivity at the reopened Peter Island Yacht Club.
After more than seven years out of action, one of the British Virgin Islands’ (BVI’s) most anticipated yachting destinations is back on the radar. As part of the complete transformation of the Peter Island Resort, the Yacht Club reopened in December 2024 and has become one of the Caribbean’s most talked-about spots to park up.
Located in the sheltered Sprat Bay, around 10 nautical miles from Virgin Gorda, the Yacht Club sits within Peter Island, the largest private island resort in the island chain. The facility has reemerged as a significantly expanded yachting destination, pairing premium berths with luxury amenities.
A New Benchmark For BVI Berthing
Particularly noteworthy to Peter Island Yacht Club is its ability to accommodate multiple superyachts of up to 200’ (61m) at the same time—a rare offering within the islands. Set within a naturally protected harbor, the marina provides a secure and convenient base from which to explore some of the Caribbean’s most sought-after cruising grounds.
Those visiting can also benefit from the amenities ashore. Highlights include access to the Yacht Club pool, the lively Drunken Pelican restaurant and bar, a commissary, and boutique shopping, as well as recreational facilities such as pickleball, basketball, and lawn games. Being at the Yacht club also gives yacht guests a chance to enjoy the wider resort, including the 10,000 square foot spa, Drake Steakhouse, and several of Petr Island’s idyllic beaches.

An Escape From The Crowds
The resort describes one of its defining characteristics as the ability for each visitor to find their own corner of the island without feeling crowded, away from other busy, overdeveloped marinas (an issue many encounter in the BVI during peak Caribbean cruising season).
The sense of privacy within the Yacht Club and wider resort is a huge draw. Guests can explore the island’s grounds, indulge in a spa treatment, relax by the pool, dine at waterfront spots, and enjoy the beaches without being amongst the throngs of others.
A Return To The BVI Circuit
Boasting five beaches, hundreds of acres of tropical landscape, and easy access to ideal cruising grounds, Peter Island has long been a Caribbean favorite, and now, with the reopening of its Yacht Club, it puts it higher up the must-visit list.
For owners, captains, and charter guests planning Caribbean yacht trips this winter season, Peter Island Yacht Club offers the perfect blend of convenience, luxury, and privacy. And for those exploring the surrounding islands, the recently reopened Biras Marina on nearby Virgin Gorda also provides another revitalized destination well worth adding to a yachting itinerary.
