The Amenities Turning Superyachts Into Floating Private Resorts

From underwater lounges to private submarines, see the wildest superyacht amenities redefining what luxury looks like at sea.

Sure, a five-star hotel can offer you a rooftop pool, a Michelin-starred restaurant, or a world-class spa, and that already feels like the height of luxury. Superyachts blow right past that bar. We’re talking beach clubs, helipads, private submarines, onboard cinemas, and infinity pools that seem to hang in midair above the sea.

Owners and charter guests aren’t just looking for beautiful interiors and big open decks anymore. They want their yacht to function like a floating private resort, one where every amenity holds its own against, or beats, whatever you’d find at the best resorts on land.

Here’s a look at some of the most over-the-top features showing up on today’s most impressive yachts.

Beach Clubs

If there’s one feature that’s become an absolute must-have, it’s the beach club. This is the stern reimagined as a private waterfront escape, and it’s turned the back of the boat into one of the most-used spaces onboard.

Hydraulic platforms fold out to create wide terraces just above the waterline, and retractable swim ladders and built-in sea pools make it easy to dive straight into the ocean. Most beach clubs come stocked with bars, lounge seating, sunbeds, and outdoor showers, so you can spend an entire afternoon anchored in a quiet bay without ever needing to step back inside. On the biggest yachts, you’ll even find multi-level beach clubs that fold out into full wellness areas, with direct access to all the water sports gear stored just a few steps away.

Infinity Pools and Glass-Bottom Pools

Pools have always been part of the yacht experience, but the designs keep getting more ambitious. Infinity pools are built to blend right into the ocean around them, so the water seems to stretch out toward the horizon with no edge in sight. Glass-bottom pools take a different approach and let natural light pour down into the rooms below while doubling as a striking visual feature in their own right.

Pools rarely stop at one, either. Plenty of superyachts spread plunge pools, cascading waterfalls, and built-in Jacuzzis across several decks, so there’s always somewhere new to cool off.

Private Helicopter Facilities

For guests who’d rather skip the marina transfer altogether, a helipad changes everything. Certified pads let passengers land directly on the yacht, which opens up remote destinations that would otherwise take hours to reach by tender or car.

Think about what that actually means for a trip: a helicopter can drop you at a mountaintop for an afternoon of heli-skiing, fly you to a private vineyard for lunch, or simply give you a once-in-a-lifetime aerial view of the coastline before you’re back onboard in time for cocktails. Some of the larger expedition yachts go a step further and build dedicated hangars, so the aircraft stays protected from salt air and weather between flights.

Onboard Wellness Retreats

Wellness has become one of the biggest trends in travel generally, and yachting is no different. Plenty of vessels now carry their own spa setups, complete with treatment rooms, saunas, steam rooms, hammams, and beauty salons. Some go further still and bring the whole team onboard, with massage therapists, yoga instructors, personal trainers, and chefs who build menus around nutrition rather than indulgence alone.

The fitness centers on newer builds can rival a boutique gym back home, with serious cardio and strength equipment plus outdoor workout spaces that look straight out over the water. Cold plunge pools, meditation decks, and infrared saunas are turning up more and more often too, which means guests can stick to their usual routine without ever setting foot on land.

Underwater Lounges and Observation Rooms

This might be the single most striking innovation in yacht design right now. Underwater lounges sit below the waterline and use large panoramic windows to put the entire marine world on display. You can be sitting there with a drink in hand while sea turtles, rays, and schools of tropical fish drift right past the glass.

These rooms are still pretty rare, which is exactly why they generate so much buzz. It’s the kind of experience no resort on land, however luxurious, can really compete with.

Private Cinemas

Movie night feels different on a superyacht. These onboard cinemas come with plush seating, theater-grade surround sound, and screens big enough to rival an actual movie theater. Some yachts keep it indoors, while others turn an open deck into an outdoor screening venue under the stars instead.

Whether the plan is a blockbuster or a major sporting event, these spaces have become a favorite with families and larger groups chartering together, since they give everyone somewhere to gather at the end of the day.

Garages Packed with Water Toys

Ask anyone who’s spent time on a serious charter yacht and they’ll tell you the toy garage might be the best part of the whole trip. A well-stocked one can include jet skis, electric surfboards, wakeboards, water skis, paddleboards, seabobs, kayaks, inflatable water parks, e-foils, and even small sailing dinghies, all ready to be deployed the moment the yacht drops anchor. Many also carry full dive centers with professional-grade scuba gear and compressors, so a morning swim can turn into an afternoon exploring a reef. Generally speaking, the bigger the yacht, the deeper that collection gets.

Submarines and Underwater Exploration

Snorkeling is great, but why stop there when you could explore the ocean floor itself? A growing number of expedition and luxury yachts now carry private submarines capable of diving hundreds of feet down, letting guests get up close with coral reefs, shipwrecks, and ecosystems that almost nobody gets to see firsthand. Some of the more science-minded expedition yachts even partner with researchers, blending serious marine exploration with the kind of luxury travel you’d expect from a five-star itinerary.

Wine Cellars and Michelin-Level Dining

Dining onboard is very much its own event. Plenty of yachts carry climate-controlled wine cellars filled with rare vintages, along with dedicated tasting rooms built for small, intimate dinners. The chefs running these kitchens often have Michelin-starred experience, and they tend to build menus around whatever’s freshest locally, whether that’s a seafood spread fresh off the boat in the Mediterranean or a multi-course tasting menu in the Caribbean. For a lot of guests, the food ends up being one of the best parts of the whole charter.

Multi-Deck Entertainment Spaces

Superyachts are built with entertaining in mind. Sky lounges, cocktail bars, dance floors, DJ booths, and outdoor lounges give guests plenty of different settings to socialize in throughout the trip. Retractable roofs and convertible layouts mean a deck that’s a quiet sunbathing spot in the afternoon can turn into a full entertainment venue by evening. Some of the larger yachts even carry grand pianos, performance stages, and professional lighting rigs for live music or private events.

The Rise of Smart Yacht Technology

Convenience is a big part of what defines modern luxury, and smart technology has become central to that on yachts. Automated lighting, climate control, and entertainment systems let guests adjust their surroundings with barely any effort, while high-speed satellite internet keeps everyone connected no matter how far offshore they are. Advanced stabilization systems also make a real difference in comfort, both underway and at anchor.

Sustainability is starting to factor in too. Some newer builds are integrating hybrid propulsion, battery storage, and other energy-efficient features that cut down on environmental impact without asking guests to give up any of the luxury.
