Plan a French Riviera yacht charter with our expert guide to the best destinations, anchorages, seasonal tips, and a 7-day itinerary.
Embarking on a yacht charter in the French Riviera is exactly how this marvelous coast is supposed to be explored. Stretching from Saint-Tropez to the Italian border, the Côte d’Azur is where you find the world’s most luxurious marinas, gorgeous turquoise bays, candy-colored old towns, stunning alpine national parks, and unspoiled island beaches. Yachting here is part of the ethos. Every harbor town offers superb marina infrastructure, and sailing times are short. For centuries, the French Riviera has been Europe’s premier vacation destination, and the favorite retreat for renowned painters, writers, poets, and artists. They found inspiration, staying in elegant villas and grand hotels, surrounded by verdant Mediterranean flora.
Cities like Nice, Monaco and Cannes are the well-known centers for glamour and luxury. But there’s a quieter side to the French Riviera that lives in the alluring towns like Villefranche-sur-Mer, Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, and Theoule-sur-Mer. Cerulean blue beaches like La Mala, Baie des Milliardaires, Plage de Pampelonne and Plage Notre Dame are ideal for visiting on a yacht. This guide includes everything you should know about chartering in the stunning French Riviera.

Best Time to Charter a Yacht on the French Riviera
The mild Mediterranean climate makes the French Riviera a year-round destination. June and September are the best months for chartering a yacht, offering comfortable, sunny weather and less crowded attractions. Here’s a seasonal breakdown.
Summer Yachting Season: May to September
That’s when you should come to the coast. Starting in May, the weather gets sunny, and the sea is warm enough to swim. June is by far the best month for beachgoing and enjoying all the sea activities. July and August are peak seasons when the weather gets hot, and the marinas fill up with superyachts. If you plan to arrive during these months, book berths in popular harbors like Port Hercules in Monaco and Vieux-Port in Cannes well in advance. September is a sweet spot in French Riviera yachting, when the summer crowds start dispersing, leaving you with less crowded towns and beaches.
Winter Yachting Season: October to April
The Mediterranean Sea can be unpredictable starting in October when the winds kick in. November to January is generally an off-season with rougher sailing conditions. This doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy all the perks of superyacht travel. If the weather is good, a winter yacht charter in the Côte d’Azur is a fantastic way to experience the region’s authentic side without the crowds. While the sea is cold for swimming, you can enjoy the gastronomy, tour the vineyards (October is the tail end of the grape harvest season), visit the art museums, and immerse yourself in the local traditions.

- Visit the fresh markets in Antibes, Menton, Cannes, and Nice to try the French Riviera street food delights, socca (crispy chickpea flatbread), pan bagnat (sandwich filled with salade niçoise), pissaladière (local answer to pizza, a flatbread with onion and tuna topping), and tarte tropézienne (a creamy cake from Saint-Tropez).
